Life is a grand impersonation of a chess board
Which God effortlessly plays,
Though the game is unfair, since he’s the expert
He leaves me with little to say
He will decide what happens to all,
My life becomes God’s game
He especially likes to toy with me,
Him and his marching black plague
Love, Hate, Joy, Pain…
All my emotions are caused by his raid
The push is on; God is rushing quick
His army is nearing, come forth the blanket of shade
First to approach is the Queen- that beautiful Queen
Standing gorgeous and proud, emitting a radiant light
She looks her foe in the eye; he stares back and turns soft
Being the dreamiest of all, she is most deadly in a fight
Now it is my turn; I so much desire to take her
But still I can not, for she is bound to the Knight.
Then in the corner, the gloomy Rook
Who prefers to see the wonders of life in limited view
He takes no risk, but everything seems to fall into place
Hiding in his invisible cave, he watches my every move
And just when I think I’ve trapped my rival,
He springs out, he slays, and new paths await me to choose
And of course we can’t leave out the pawn
They are the tall trees that block the hopeful view of the shining sun
I try to circle around them, to leave the forest alone in peace
Then unexpectedly, a tree hits my pedestal, and I am terrified at what it will become
The trivial things are the ones that will have impact, in this fatal game of life
I am helpless against it; I stand crushed under my adversary’s thumb.
